About DHIS2 Android Implementers Academy, Level 2

This 4-day Academy is the first Academy in which the brand new DHIS2 Android App will be presented. It brings together implementers, partners and experts of DHIS2 Android tools to share and explore the potential of the new functionalities and bridge the gap between currently used and state of the art implementation approaches.

The new generation DHIS2 Android App integrates events and tracker data capture. It is fully functional while offline and comes with great improvements like configurable feel and look, easier login and enhanced data protection, attractive and user-friendly navigation, integrated search/registration for tracker, improved tracker dashboard, pictorial data entry for events and event completeness information.

The configuration of the DHIS2 server to make the most of the visual components of the app is a completely new domain and is the key for a highly visual and intuitive user experience. This Academy will explore all the new functionalities and key aspects for a successful configuration of DHIS2 server which guarantees the best user experience for the front-line worker. Mobile implementation is a complex task, this Academy also aims to share lessons learnt amongst DHIS2 Android implementations from experts and develops approaches which are applicable across different projects.

Duration: 4 days

Prerequisite: A completion certificate awarded during a previous DHIS2 Academy or having completed the Online Course on DHIS2 Fundamentals.

One of the objectives of DHIS 2 Academy is to emphasise experience and solution sharing among countries across the region and to promote networking and collaboration among DHIS 2 implementers in the region.

Prof. Kristin Braa

University of Oslo
Professor Kristin Braa is the Head of HISP program. With 15 years of experience in mobile innovations in the South, from private and academic sector, Professor Braa is also a HIS strategist and specialist in scaling national HIS to the community with mobile innovations. She won the UiO innovation award in 2013.

Marta Vila

Android Product Manager
Marta has worked with Health Information Systems for more than 10 years. Her technical background as Computer Science Engineer, and MsC in Telecommunications Networks for Low Resources settings, combined with her user oriented approach and analytical skills have allowed her to participate in different areas of Information System projects; from technical tasks to requirements gathering, design, implementation, field deployment and end-user trainings. During the last 5 years Marta was a key actor in the global deployment of the HMIS based in DHIS 2 for MSF Spain, and currently holds the position of DHIS2 Liaison Officer for MSF. Nowadays, in addition to her professional activities, she pursues a PhD on Information Systems at the University of Oslo.

Rodolfo Melia

Android Product Manager
Rodolfo has been designing, building and deploying technology solutions for nonprofits for over 25 years. Rodolfo trained as an architect, but decided to combine his strategic design acumen, passion for technology, and early experience working in the NGO sector to specialise in redesigning and automating nonprofit business processes. Rodolfo has designed and built multiple custom applications for DHIS2, using both web and Android platforms. Currently Rodolfo shares his time between the development of the DHIS2 Android App for UiO and running a small specialised consultancy for DHIS2 catering to international non-profits.

Jose Garcia Muñoz

Jose is an experienced IT professional with more than 10 years of experience working on several IT sectors, such as: health informatics, public government data, ICT4D, telecommunications. He has been working in more than 10 countries with different NGOs. Jose has built up excellent technical skills including analysis, design, and programming, focusing on the design of large scale systems, team management, capacity building, and creative information architect with a deep understanding of a wide range of technological solutions. Jose is currently part of the DHIS2 Android team.


Invitation & Selection of the participants

We are inviting 2-3 people from each country to join this event. DHIS2 experts from global and the region will share the latest features and development, best practices around the globe to help you to make your DHIS2 implementation a success in your country and/or across your organization.

The organisers will evaluate your application and the country quotas to get back to you as soon as possible with payment details.

Registration fees

The Academy fees are USD 780 and include training material, lunch and coffee breaks for 4 days.

Travel and Visa


There are many international flights that have flights to the Abeid Amani Karume Airport in Zanzibar. Participants also have the alternative to use the Julius Nyerere Airport in Dar es Salaam, and take a connecting ferry or flight to Zanzibar.


Travelling to Tanzania requires Visa from Tanzanian Diplomatic Missions of your Country of residence or where there’s not a traveler sent a request for an entry facility on line, which will be used to obtain a visa on any official point of entry in Tanzania. Single entry tourist visa costs $50. Participants from EAC and SADC countries will not require Visa to enter Tanzania.


The event organisers will issue support letters, if required, only to those delegates who have registered for the academy.

Known to the world as the spice island, participants may take a tour in one of many spice farms or take a sip of spicy Zanzibari tea from local kiosks. Although revered today as a paradise, Zanzibar was a key area in the Arab slave trade and was the largest slave market in East Africa. Dive into the indian ocean and experience the diversity of marine life of the archipelago at Nungwi or visit Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park to see the rare red colobus monkeys. Listen to local Taarab music, or visit various artisan markets. Take a boat trip or visit the floating restaurant. Terms and Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to every person registering as a participant to a DHIS2 Academy.

Academy Registration

Only fully completed registration forms will be considered. After reviewing each registration, the Academy Organisers will send a confirmation/information email. This email will include all the details related to the payment of the registration fees.

Participation is not guaranteed until full payment of the registration fees is received.

Each Academy has a ceiling. If the maximum capacity is reached, the Academy Organisers reserve the right to refuse additional registrations and to close the registration form.

Methods of Payment

Payments should be made in advance, before the Academy starts, by bank transfer or PayPal. Participants who made a late payment (from 3 days before the Academy starts) are invited to bring a copy of their payment slip to the registration desk the first day of the Academy.

All bank fees and money transfer costs must be covered by the transmitter. Any negative balance will be collected on site. Kindly indicate the Academy name and the participant’s full name as a reference on all bank transfers.

Academy Collaterals

The Academy Organisers cannot guarantee that Academy collaterals will be available for late registrations. All materials will be distributed on-site.

Cancellation Policy

Notice of cancellation (sickness, lack of funding or any other personal reasons) must be made in writing by email to the Academy Organisers. The date of the email will be the basis for considering refunds. Please indicate your bank details on your written cancellation. Refunds will be made after the conference.

Registration fees may be refunded as follows (depending on the Organisers' contracts with their vendors):
- Up to 4 weeks before the Academy: 100% refund
- From 4 weeks to 7 days before the Academy: 50% refund
- From 6 days to the Academy: no refund

The Academy Organisers reserve the right to reimburse the participant after deducting costs already incurred for the bank transfers.

No refunds will be granted for unforseen events or early termination of attendance, or any other incidents during the Academy, which are beyond the control of the Academy Organisers.

Cancellation of the Academy

In the event that the Academy cannot be held or is postponed due to events beyond the control of the Academy organisers, the Academy organisers cannot be held liable by participants for any damages, costs such as transportation, accommodation, and other expenses incurred by the participants.

All expenses in relation to the Academy, the registration and the attendance are the sole responsibility of the participants.

Under these circumstances, the Academy Organisers reserve the right to reimburse the participant after deducting costs already incurred for the bank transfers.


The registration fee does not include insurance. The Academy Organisers do NOT provide any form of insurance and do not take any responsibility for accidents or illnesses that might occur during the DHIS2 Academy and in the course of travel to or from the Academy place. Therefore, each participant is solely responsible for his/her safety, security and health.

Moreover, participants shall be aware of their health insurance policy and take appropriate measures to ensure their coverage for any hazards which might occur when attending the DHIS2 Academy.

Modification of the Programme and Venue Change

The Academy Organisers reserve the right to amend the Academy programme, including making changes to the speakers/facilitators appearing and/or subjects covered. No refunds can be granted in case of cancellation of speakers/facilitators, programme change or any other incidents during the Academy which are beyond the control of the Organisers.

The Academy Organisers reserve the right to move the Conference to a larger or smaller venue, if the level of participant registrations warrants.

Name Badge

The name badge must be worn at all times during the Academy. Access to the venue will not be granted without the DHIS2 Academy name badge.

Invitation Letter

Participants requiring an official invitation letter from the Academy Organisers can request one by email. Participants must first register to the Academy.


It is the sole responsibility of the participant to take care of his/her visa requirements. Participant who require an entry visa must allow sufficient time for the application procedure.

Data Protection

The Academy Organisers will collect and store datas for the preparation and execution of the Academy.

HISP-UiO performs monthly e-mailings (which include photographs/videos) and/or communications on social media regarding the DHIS2 Academy. If you do not wish to appear in the marketing visuals, please send an email to aliceal@ifi.uio.no.

Email contact details of participants will not be passed on to third parties. Participants may unsubscribe from these mailing campaigns at any time.

Limitation of Liability

The participant agrees to be responsible for all property he or she brings to the Academy venue.
